Rocky River Social Services

The Social Worker offers an array of services to assist with life’s transitions, home health care, affordable housing, Social Security, Medicare and more for seniors in the community. All social service inquiries are completely confidential. In addition, various types of assistance are available to older adults and low-income residents who meet program qualifications. This assistance includes transportation services, a food pantry, prescription drug programs and referrals for other types of assistance.

Attention veterans and their spouses: this Federal benefit helps pay for health care. Larry Zietlow of the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs will talk about Aid and Attendance. This program is designed to help veterans and their spouses pay for health care assistance either in their home, at an assisted living or nursing home facility.

Applications are being accepted for City of Rocky River’s 2017-2018 Apron Snow Removal Program. Plowing of driveway aprons begins after at least 3” of snow have accumulated and all city streets have been plowed.
Qualified residents must meet guidelines that include:

  • Resident must be at least 70 years old as of November 1 or be physically disabled.
  • Total household income from all sources must be less than $40,000 per year.
  • The single-family home owner must live at the residence year round.
  • There is no one over the age of 12 or under the age of 70 who is physically able to shovel snow.

Applications available at RRSC, should be returned to city hall by December 1st.

Rocky River Meals on Wheels in an independent, nonprofit service organization that delivers freshly prepared, well-blanced meals to recipents’ doors at an affordable cost. Two meals are delivered each weekday at midday.

The social worker works with the Rocky River Fire Department to install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in senior households in River, change batteries and test detectors.

The Rocky River Assistance Program was initiated in 1984 by the Rocky River Women’s Club and is staffed solely by volunteers. This established community resource supplies residents in need with food, personal care, and household items every other month. In addition, clients receive holiday dinners in November and December. Children enrolled in the program are provided school supplies, school lunch items, coats, gift cards, and presents from their holiday wish lists. Scholarships for school trips and qualifying recreation programs are also offered.
